A Dreary Day

As mentioned in the previous post...Friday there was no school or work and on Monday there is no school/work. So, basically a 5 day weekend! Woohoo!

We had planned a trip to Berlin, but it didn't quite work out the way we were hoping so instead we took a daytrip to Regensburg. It turned out to be the dreariest day of our entire German experience yet...

The first place we took refuge from the rain was in a church.  They were preparing for a concert later that night.  We found someone who spoke English and he told us a little about it then said we could look around.  I took a quick trip up to the balconey for this shot...  I had a little trouble getting up there....one thing they don't tell you about old churches is that occasionally they are missing stones in the floor so if you step in a hole like that you better be prepared to fall.  I stepped in the hole and then stumbled about 10 feet before crashing into a chair.  The whole concert practice stopped and I had a lot of German flying my direction...I managed an embarrassed...errr...I'm ok and scooted out of there as fast as possible with a very red face!

One of the highlights of Regensburg is the old stone bridge...actually, the first bridge of its kind built over the Danube river.  It was built around 1135 and is considered one of the greatest feats of medieval engineering.

We took a walk across it and Maddie stopped to peer at a statue that was peering at...

And Bella had to have a look-see too...she just wanted to touch the old stone bridge wall...after being bundled in her stroller for so long the rain had temporarily stopped and she needed to feel the real world...not all wet!

And finally - after a delicious dinner of traditional German food we headed home and passed their amazing cathedral one last time...

We decided that Regensburg was a city worth returning too...when we had more time and maybe some less wet weather!

Love the last picture. I remember how hard it was to do the churches and other magnificient buildings justice when my pictures came back from my time in Germany.
